I have a question on the cadenza at bar 67. Liszt has notated it in groups of three, yet the pattern is actually a group of 4 notes. For those of you who have played it, did you play it as triplets or did you accent the pattern of 4?

I would guess if Liszt notated them as groups of three, then he really meant they should be perceived as groups of three, even if the "obvious" (most easily perceived) pattern might seem to be groups of four. (I couldn't find the score, and can't remember the music.)

Not having studied this piece nor listened to recordings of it, I would nevertheless think that the way it is written dictates that the passage be thought of in groups of three. While it is marked ppp dolcemente which indicates no strong accents in this cadenza, I would still think[/b] of it in groups of three. That will inevitably change the sound of the cadenza from what you might project if you were thinking of it in groups of four.

Regards,
