I am planning to get a new Mason Hamlin. I am considering a BB, but am afraid that it will be too big for my living room. I am afraid that either the increased volume of sound will overwhelm the room or it will sound bottled up.In the showroom, the BB sounds better than the A, but my living room is only 12' by 18' with just an 8' ceiling. The living room opens to a small dining area and there is no wall between the two rooms. Is there anyone out there, especially a piano owner living in Manhattan, who has a big piano in a small room who could offer some advice?

I've got the exact piano (M&H BB) in my living room which is no larger than yours. Believe me, if you have proper voicing, this piano will sound beautiful in your room; I wouldn't have it any other way. I can play with the lid wide open with out any problems----the key is in the voicing. The fact is, a 7' piano makes (in most cases---certainly in the case of M&H BB) a more beautiful sound than most smaller pianos. The bass is "true" and the treble clear.

I say, go for it and be glad you did.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Does anyone know someone in NYC that has a big (around 7'- like a Mason BB or Steinway B) piano in a space as small as mine? I'd really like to contact them and hear how their piano sounds in their space. This is probably the only way I'd really feel confident enough to buy a big piano.
