Hey, i just realised that its really hard to tell whether or not the people posting all of these messages on this forum are male or female. Some of them are really obvious (like me!) but some are very ambiguous. I though we could do a new pole to see whether there are more boys or girls on this forum.

I guess i'll start - Female.

Anyone want to go next?

http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ultranet/BiologyPages/S/SexChromosomes.html

"The nuclei of human cells contain 22 autosomes and 2 sex chromosomes. In females, the sex chromosomes are the 2 X chromosomes. Males have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome. The presence of the Y chromosome is decisive for unleashing the developmental program that leads to a baby boy."

Since this is a discussion of gender, you posted an x and I posted a y.

Well, six posts later and we only know the sex of two people - and before anyone else gets confused (as we (actually me) apparently do) thats sex as in gender - not the other kind!

I'd presume, then, that you are not looking for answers such as "Yes, please" or "No, thanks. I'm allergic to cooties."

Well if you want to share that information with me - feel free - but that wasnt necessarily what i was looking for.

(ps Id just like point out now that i dont have 'cooties' so i guess there would be no reason to say no!)

So, you wanna know about my sex? Well, last Thursday I... :p

Physically, a young, strapping man. Mentally, a five-year-old. wink

There's nothing wrong with flirting, it's what makes the world go round.

I'll flirt with you if you feel left out...

Remember, Princess: Flirting leads to big mistakes!

I thought it was cute, though! I really though you knew I was a girl when you said: Jealous?

By then I couldn't tell you cuz it wouldn't have seemed right.

I hope Sam's reading these!

i'm an Afro-American female. note the 'a' at the end of 'Piana'. that must mean i'ma girl. and i'll be 20 by July 1st. and i've been playing the piano since early May of last year, and lovin' it. i don't plan to get lessons, b/c i'm content with playing popularized arrangements.

So what was the final verdict?

Any possible pun that one can pull out of that sentance was not intended. wink

Haha, so was my highschool in Canada. But I'm pretty sure that's just because we we're an international school catering to Korean students.

Hmm, doesn't ring a bell confused . I think the branches of SYMF are different as well? I usually see the same people every year.

Wow! Hmm, yea I don't think I have ever seen him play at the winners circle. I guess he plays for a different branch?

I was wearing this bright red shirt that day and got 2nd for bach prelude and fuge in Eb WTC 1. Ironically, I gave a brilliant performance of the 4th ballade and won NOTHING for that. (She wrote I should have worn leather shoes)

Aww, I'm competing in the Bach Category, Chopin Etude, and Chopin Nocturne. The Nocturne is worrying me since the last part is so hard to control. Oh well, I hope to do the Concerto category next summer! It sounds like so much fun...

This year is my 2nd to last SYMF! I hope to grab at least 1st in one category to continue my streak :p

Princess, did you ever think we might have come up with wierd names like Ancient Upright so flirters wouldn't know? wink

Oh well, it's a piano forum, so it shouldn't matter.

And, Sam, did you laugh your pants off like I did over that whole missunderstanding last night?

Yes but as you are now well aware i can be very curious so i will just keep on flirting until something hurrendously embarrasing like last night happens. And even then it doesn't stop me. Life is too short.

And to be honest, if you give yourself an ambiguous name, you've only got yourself to blame when you recieve unwanted messages.

At least thats something i don't have to worry about.

x (and this is not to annoy you personally AU - it is simply something i always have done and something i will continue to do)

My name has nothing to do with either old pianos that are still standing up, nor does it have anything to do with being royalty. So, I suppose I have one of the more ambiguous names... yet I still enjoy a good bout of flirting. smile

Yes - but you have now shared with the world that you are a man, so you dont have to worry about getting unwanted messages.

That was the other reason i set up this thread - to avoid these situations. Not just because i wanted to know who was male - ok, in fairness, - that was probably the major contributing factor.

I was going to say...you wanted to know for your own purposes. :p wink

As far as I go, you are correct in saying I told the world I am a male. I would hope that, through my flirtatious nature, I've exposed my personal preference...so that should take care of the other issue. :p wink

No, but the rest of us certainly enjoyed it. And it wasn't such a bad thing. Ms. Upright seemed to get a chuckle out of it. wink

To be fair we are. It is still male/female orientated. And i'm glad you find humour in my humiliation Sam - at least something good came of it.

And seriously Derulux, i wouldn't get that started again, i got the feeling that she wont take it well. wink

Ok so i lost count - but it looks like the females are definitely starting to surface.

Not THAT young... I'm old enough to play Mendelsohnn's Rondo Capriciosso and Shubert Impromptu 2. That's how I keep track of age... laugh with pieces

I have some chromosomes, too. They were developed in a darkroom.

Ah, that can be taken so many ways.

Hmm...while we're in the "age" area (I don't think this requires or warrants a new thread):

How many of the "elderly" pianists got a late start on their careers, and how many successfully dug out of the hole of lost time?

LOL. Thanks Richard! To be called right on when you reach 33 is quite a distinction...even if I'm not quite sure which particular comment made me so...

BTW, if you're actually NE born and bred, the Durham accent is also pretty right on. wink

Hey Richard! If you're in Durham you're not that far away from me!!! I'm in a little village called Greenside about 5 miles out of Newcastle. I know thats still about, what 30 minutes drive away - but its still alot closer than America!!

I would love to know what this 'coffee room' is everyone keeps talking about. People seem to hold it in very high regard. Would someone like to share with me what it is or was apparently...?

The Coffee Room was another forum on PW in which members could discuss topics not related to pianos or music (which would appear on the relevant piano- or music-related forum).

While there were some good discussions related to pretty much any topic you could imagine, there was also derision, prejudice, adult-themed, and other controversial topics. A few months ago, Frank pulled the plug on the Coffee Room. As a result, there are now several, non-PW affilated offshoots.

Damn those moderators - always spoiling other peoples fun! (im just kidding - i love you all really) We shall have to find a way to bring back this 'coffee room' as all the newbies never got to experience its marvells.

Why must we be weird - because we appreciate our freedom of expression then become annoyed when higher powers remove it from us without considering our needs as individuals! I think that you my friend are the true 'weird' one.

Oh, and I've no masculine side, sorry guys! But I'm proud of that.

Oh yes, happy b-day Derulux, sorry I missed it. If you were a South African guy, you could've gotten a kiss out of me... ha-ha, damn, you;re not!

Because it keeps us from getting too senile with over practicing, or from getting to anxious with under practicing.

Yeah, it got canned. But there's a new one - the "New Coffee Room": http://www.coffee-room.com

It's just not the same.

I loved the old room and all, but boy was it violent.

I don't know about that, athy, but I'm only..uh...eight (?) hours away in Philly. thumb :p

Every day we are afforded a new chance. The problem with life is not that you run out of chances. In the end, what you run out of are days.

Well the flight is like 10 hours but what with the time zone change, im sure i could get there and it would just still be your birthday. It should give us just enough time to, um, *celebrate*...

I just joined the piano log place.... I have a daily average of 205 at the moment... I have a feeling it will rise if my parents nag... atleast I'll have a thing to look forward to on the practice logs when I practice.

I need help with composition. If you have Finale NotePad installed, please ask me to send the file somehow and rate it. Or send an Adobe Reader copy of the music.

Well, I can always make exceptions... 2hearts it depends on the circumstances wink And depends on the guy also, of course!

Goin now, see you in a week! *kissy kissy*.

Just getting back to the main topic, I'm still female - haven't undergone the sex-change, on not going to in the near future! wink

I don't know if I'm male or female.

Three reasons, all related to my advancing age.

1. My memory is failing.

2&3. I can't see as well as I used to and my expanding waistline prevents direct verification.

Can I make a phone call?

Yeah, you're right, I probably won't be able to come close to beating you. But I am right behind you in the practice log. Doubt I'll be able to beat you there, either. confused

Out of context, but a cute topic none the less.

Okay, my third post here. I'm still female, but just wanted to say that I'm white. Why do I find this so important? Because people in America tends to think that there's only coloured and black people in South Africa.

I'm a white South African Female!

I think you could hardly say that your post is out of context when you compare it to some of the other stuff written in here (and yes, before everyone jumps to defend themselves, it is usually by me)! :p
