What other works did Johann Pachelbel compose besides "Pachelbel Canon" which I love to play? I honestly have not seen or heard anything else by him. confused

If I'm not mistaken, I think a lot of Pachelbel's works were composed for the organ. One of his non-Canon in D pieces that I particularly like is his Musicalische Sterbens-Gedanden (musical meditations on death). It's not a morbid type of piece; you could almost hear a sense of hope in it. I know this might sound odd, but it would be a piece I would love to have played at my funeral. (I guess I like it that much.)

He's also composed several Preludes, Toccatas, Fugues, etc. for the organ. Admittedly, before I discovered my fascination for the organ, I too wasn't aware of anything else Pachelbel had composed besides the Canon in D.

(I discovered recently after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg that there was another Pachelbel, one of the early American composers, whose first name escapes me at the moment, but if memory serves me right, had composed pieces for the organ and the harpsichord. Of course, the Peanut Gallery is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong. wink )

Regards,
Lyn F.

Pachelbel wrote relatively few works (compared to other composers of his era), but may have written more had it not been for his untimely death (I believe he was murdered). I also believe you are correct, as he did write a number of organ works.

Do a search on Google and you will come up with some stuff. For example, here is a link I found to the back page of a Dover edition of Pachelbel organ music (he wrote mostly organ music).
