Hi everyone,
I'm a beginner and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out the timing of part of a piece I'm working on. If any of you clever people are able to play this and record it for me I would be very grateful!
Thankyou so much,
Erin

One thing that may be confusing you is that the triplet marking over the initial group in the RH is wrong. These notes should have their normal time value.

(Having eliminated that potential complication, try playing it through slowly enough that you can count in semiquavers.)

Best wishes,
Matthew

Yikes! That publisher should be shot immediately - the notation is horribly confusing. If I was learning it, I'd probably rewrite so that the notation was correct. (Good beaming, not using quarter notes on off beats except in clearly syncopated passages, etc...)

I don't understand why there's a 3 above the rhythmic figure in the first bar of the right hand.

It is NOT a triplet because the value of the figure matches exactly the beats.
So forget about the 3.

To understand how to match the right hand figure with the left hand figure you must subdivide the right hand and left hand figure by the smallest note value.

The smallest note value is a sixteen note.
Hence you must divide the right hand and left hand figures into sixteen notes.

As you can see, when you do this you know exactly the note each note goes with.

The other rhythm problem you have is, I guess, this figure:

You apply the same principle.
What's the smallest note value?
Also in this case the smallest note value is a sixteen note. So you subdivide the right and left hand figures by sixteen notes.

Thankyou so much! Did you play that or do you have a program that will play it?
