What do you think is appropriate to wear for performing 2 pieces for an audience? I was thinking either a long navy blue dress which is pretty formal. I didn't know if it would be too formal or a shorter black dress.

It depends;
1) Is it a formal recital with printed programs?
2) Is it a casual performance?
3) Is it in an auditorium/hall or a teacher's studio?
4) Is it an evening or daytime performance?
5) What are other performers wearing?
6) In which of your clothes choices are you more comfortable?

Play well!

Regards,

Yes there are printed programs. I have two performances in the same week. One in the afternoon and one at night. I'm not sure what the others are wearing. One of them is in a large church and the other is in a country club. Its for lots of old people.

I wonder if she means three-quarter length sleeves?

PianoMuse,

You really have to post a picture of yourself in those 3 1/2 sleeves. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I haven't had my breakfast yet. I'd better go get some.........

Regards,
Mike

For my recitals, I decided to wear a black skirt that hangs just below my knee and a sparkly blue 3 1/2 sleeve shirt. Yes it is because I have 3 1/2 arms. Thats what makes me good at piano! I have 3 1/2 hands!! haha
