Op.33 no.5
Op.39 no.6 (the fugato-like one)
But i have to say that i am still discovering these works.

I like many of the preludes; not so many of the etudes. Or, perhaps, it is the pianists I've heard playing the etudes that I don't like. I sometimes have trouble separating the two...

My choice is Richter for sure. I love Richter's playing too, even if he didnt record all of them. Lugansky plays them well also. Ashkenazy is my least favourite recording that I've heard but still worth listening to. My favourites are op.33 #4 and op.39 #4.

Richter is the best in my opinion. Boban, welcome to the forums! (I think you know who I am)  I like many of the etudes, however I never worked on one of those. I like a lot the c#-minor one. It's a great piece.

my favourite etudes are eb-major, and c#-minor!!! My favourite performance is one of Volodos.

Yes, I checked Volodos on youtube.com. What a great performance! He plays on open geez.. Outside. Unfortunately, he still didn't amaze me with music.

I've played the following at one time or another:
Op. 33 #1 in f min
Op. 33 #2 in C Maj
Op. 33 #4 in d min
Op. 33 #5 in Eb Maj
Op. 39 #3 in f# min
Op. 39 #4 in b min
Op. 39 #5 in eb min
Op. 39 #6 in a min
Op. 39 #8 in d min
Of these, my favorites are probably those from Op. 39, although I don't care so much for #5 anymore - I liked it more when I was young and thought louder=better!
#8 is among the most beautiful pieces he wrote, IMHO. The early modulation from d min to F Maj and back always gets me!

Being very fond of both sets of etudes, I'll pick Op. 33 no. 3 in C minor (posth) and Op 39 no. 5 in Eb minor. Kissin plays the latter to a farthing.
