Brahms Concerto #2, Allegro ma non troppo

The sound is a little more muffled than I would like because the mikes were so far away from the piano, but here it is anyway. Aside from a few small things I was generally happy with the performance.

Fair warning, my accompanist misses a lot of notes. laugh

Very nice, I like the 30 seconds of silence before you start, too. laugh

Was it a Steinway D? How was the action on it? Your sound is very good, nice and full, and I did not find it too muffled.

Aye, it was a D. The action was moderately heavy, except in the lower register where merely looking at the keys sent out a 948750987 decibel roar.

Aside from a few small things I am generally happy with that performance, Brendan.

Just kidding. Loved it!

Wow, Brendan. That was very musical, well thought out, and executed. I hope it is too late to cancel my recital, because after hearing your Brahms Bb... smile

I liked it. very convincing. I accompanied this concerto a while ago, and it was EXHAUSTING. This is a very difficult piece, so mad props to ya.

Nice, except the wrong notes in the jumps (just kidding - I have no complaints!) Did you just play the first movement?

Brendan,

Hey. Great job--very polished, even more so than last year. This is your piece.

Good luck in the orchestra concert. Was it only a one-movement competition?

Brendan,

This is gorgeous Brahms...really, really gorgeous Brahms. Lush, exciting, heartfelt. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. It's obvious why you won the competition! I expect we'll be hearing a lot from you in the not-too distant future! Maybe on Hyperion or Sony or RCA.... smile

The D sounds great, by the way, and kudos to whoever is playing the piano reduction of the orchestra.

Bravo. Intelligent and exciting, with many beautiful moments. I hope that you will record the orchestral performance and post the entire concerto.

Listening right now: you really play the heck out of this piece (my favorite concerto bar none, too) -- congratulations!

Maybe see you Sunday at the NY Piano Meetup?

Brendan, it is wonderful! I like your sense of timing, perfect for Brahms. It's a shame the top end of the piano was so dead, I can tell you're doing all you can to get it to come through in the ff passages. You should be very proud of your performance.
