I finally saw Grimaud last Friday. She played the Brahms 1st rather than the Beethoven 4th. Truthfully I wasn't wildly impressed. I was definitely looking for a bit more introspection, especially in the 2nd movement. I was looking for a bit more sound, but didn't get that either. Good solid playing, but far from extraordinary. I think the last artist I saw performing the Brahms 1st was Garrick Ohlsson. That was wonderful. Bronfman will be playing the Brahms 2nd next month. I am looking forward to that after hearing his Rach. 3 last year. Her performing outfit was quite unique though. White slacks and white tails.

Grimaud is always eye candy, though I prefer pet rats to wolves. Cannot say I've been fond of her recordings, but I suppose to each his own.

My last encounter with the Brahms D minor in the concert hall was Leif Ove Andsnes. An unforgettable evening. He just has it all: great looks, sublime stage charisma, a piano tone to die for, sovereign musicianship. I left the venue in tears. There is something so manly about his playing, it was as if Brahms wrote his concerto for him.

I want to see her bring a wolf onstage with her and leash it to a piano leg.

Andsnes, one pianist I have not been able to see live. I am sad by this. I love his recordings. Last time I saw Brahms D minor performed was Emanual Ax.

Recently here in evansville, pianist Bryan Wallick played the Brahms. I was not able to go to that concert, but it had favorable reviews.

As for Grimaud, I saw her play the Schumann concerto in Chicago. I was not to impressed with her either. Ill be honest did not find her all that attractive either.

I think it's the piercing eyes.

While I am drawn to her and really want to love her music (I'm telling you, it's the eyes) I do feel Grimaud is overrated.
