Well this isnt Classical, but the baroque cd I play the most is Purcell's Dido and Aeneas.

Glenn Gould in regards to music:

The problem begins when one forgets the artificiality of it all, when one neglects to pay homage to those designations that to our minds-to our reflect senses, perhaps-make of music an analyzable commodity. The trouble begins when we start to become so impressed by the strategies of ours systematized thought that we forget that it does relate to an obverse, that it is hewn from negation, that it is but a very small security against the void of negation which surrounds it.

Hi Zelda!
We just listened to Purcell's Dido and Aeneas...My teacher was crying it was so powerful, I loved it....Do you know of a particularly good recording?

Yes, I know of two that are amazing out of the many I have heard. The first one I will present is a recording which has a singer for Dido with the most enchanting voice. It is not so operetic (not so much vibrato and does not sound as if a fat person is singing); its more renassaince sounding. She is very young too; it is sweet.
The information:
Purcell: Dido and Aeneas/Parrott,Taverner Choir and Players
Label: Sony Classical
Performer: Emily Van Evera and Hanne Mari Orbaek
Conductor: Andrew Parrott
(please listen to this one smile )

The second is the most enthusiastic performance I have ever heard of it by both ins. and singers.
The information:
English Chamber and Choir Orchestra
Label:Warner Classics
Soprano: Tatiana Troyanos
Tenor: Richard Stilwell
Conductor: Raymond Leppard (I think)

Its got to be my Chopin Etude Collection, as recorded by Andrei Gavrilov. I would HIGHLY recomend this to all fans of the Chopin Etudes. After that, its either my Chopin Preludes by Martha Argerich (I would also HIGHLY recomend this to all Chopin Prelude lovers) or my Rachmoninoff cd which contains the Rach 3 and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini op43, with Leonard Pennario at the piano. Another fine CD. But I also have one that I burned with some misc. stuff on it like La Campanella, a couple of Scott Joplin rags, some Rachmaninoff preludes, Chopin's Piano Concerto #2, a couple of Scriabin pieces, the Moonlight 3, and the Flight of the Bumblebee that gets played quite often.

Mine is also definitely my CD of Murray Perahia playing the Chopin Etudes. How you can combine such virtuosity and powerful sensitivity is stupefying, and a real tribute to the composer...what a beautiful album.
