Did anyone attend Byron Janis's piano concert before?

What a fantastic pianist. I'm listening to his Prokofiev Tocatta now (after the 3rd Concerto - smile )

What's he doing nowadays? His website hasn't been updated since last year, and as far as I know he hasn't given much concerts since the '90s.

I know he suffers some form of arthritis... that's terrible. I think he composes a bit now and teaches in Israel.

Have any of you been to his concerts before? I would love to hear him perform (not on a CD), but I don't know if that will ever happen.

I saw him in college, which was a while back.

I remember he played some Janacek that really impressed me. I forget which.

Gosh, in retrospect, seems I saw so many top notch pianists when I was in music school. Wish I could tern back time and hear those concerts again. Seems I could appreciate them now more than I did then. ironic.

I was born the year Glenn Gould stop playing concerts. Coincidence?

I was just thinking about Janis recently. I once saw him play the Tchaikovsky 1st in concert, back in the 1960s. Unfortunately, he had a bad time with it that night. Just a bauble or two at the start, but I know he usually didn't do that.

Janis's Rach recordings for the Mercury label are still very enjoyable.

I heard him in the 60's. I only remember that he tended to keep the left hand so quiet, at times, that it seemed to disappear (this was in a classical period sonata, maybe Haydn.)
