I'm not sure if here or the forum is the best place to post this, so I'm doing it on both.

I would like some advice on recording an acoustic upright piano, largely for learning assistance. What's the best way to do this, both for conventional home recording and computer (mediaplayer or similar)recording. What's the best way to mike an acoustic upright - at the soundboard, the front, over the lid, inside the lid? What hardware would I need to mike the piano to my computer for recording. (I have a fairly basic Realistic stereo digital mike.)

Any takers?
Jamie

I'm using Zoom H5n, one of the affordable portable recorder that targets at musicians/documentary makers. I use this to produce my own musics album from my home studio recording room (bomb shelter with DIY Rockwool for acoustic treatment). It has an option to plug connect my P115 Yamaha line output into this device via XLS/TRS and have it recorded directly so it will not record ambience surrounding noise. H4n (older version) has a shorter battery life than H5n but it has extra overdubbing than H5n which is a strong point. But i use an Android APP "Video Show" to combine different tracks into one and bonus point is it does not restrict you on limitation to video production time. Below are the various portable devices for your reference. If yours is not a digital piano, you can just use this record this directly on a standing tripod. But soundproof is important.
