Oh G eekd... so, like, all you guys' anecdotes on your fear of Bach under "performance tips" kinda scared me; I'm entering a Junior Bach festival in January, and I'm playing the Gigue from his 3rd English Suite, which is pretty fast compared to what I've done so far; and the things about muscle memory leaving when nervousness appears is REALLY scary... frown
So, how many of you have/had "Bach Fears," and, if you do/did, how are/did you getting/get rid of them?... 'Cuz I'm developing some of my own now...

Musically,

I don't think you should be afraid at all. At least not beyond the usual stage anxiety. Just make sure you KNOW the music. You have to think, but gedt your thinking done before the performance. When you know it so well you don't have to think, it really frees you up. Plan it so well that you can alter the plan spontaneously. Spontaniety never really happens without planning, just luck. These are all ideals of course, it's a lifetimes work mastering them. Above all, have fun!
