My passion is piano (hence my membership on this forum)but none of my children have shown a real passion for it. I keep reminding myself that my own passion didn't surface strongly until I was about 11 or so and not to get impatient.

Tonight though, I think a little flare of passion may have been born in my daughter. We were at her friends house and her friends mother asked if I would play. I played what I could from memory and then Amanda popped up and said: "can I play too?"

"Of course" being the only possible answer and she sat down and played Fur Elise (simplified version) note perfect. Her friend and mother were very impressed and applauded. The look on Amanda's face was priceless and then there was that glow in the eye.

She said later: "I think I am really ready for my recital." That is a good thing since it is in 2 weeks.

I think giving her lots of opportunity to play for others and hear some applause may be a very good tactic with this child.

I am just so proud!

Eileen

What a lucky child she is to have your support. Congratulations to both of you.

I had to laugh at this one... I figure all of us have taken years off of our lives by squeezing the last possible bit of time out of preparing for a recital, or watching our kids prepare for a recital...!

Congrats on your daughter's success-- let us know how her big day goes. And good for you in letting her choose her time.

Nina
