Well obviously you don't care - and others do - and we respond accordingly. No one is right or wrong about an issue such as this. Its all a matter of personal opinion. Sort of like politics and religion. smile

You are missing the point. As long as you can link to them, or cut and paste from them, a thread is not ever really closed. They would have to be deleted to truly "close" them.

Regardless, it is still stupid to have to wade though a bunch of ancient material from people who no longer post to get to the current stuff. If you don't mind, fine, but as I've said several times, there are ways around it that are a win-win, in that the material from the old thread can still be referenced in a new thread, one that doesn't make those of us who do mind to have to crawl through stuff left behind from people in the distant past who are no longer available to have make conversation about what they wrote.

Very funny. smile
You think we're missing the point just because we disagree with you.

I promise you, we didn't miss anything.

I don't think you're responding to a vacuum if the poster is no longer active. What about everyone else who reads your post?

Posters often comment on posts that were a response to something someone else said.

Oh, yes, it is a fabulous Scriabin discussion we are having...

While you chaps are flailing each other with repetitious "points of order" ... is there anybody in the company who can play a piece of music by Scriabin ... as earlier indicated (with the example of the Prelude Opus 11.1) ... I’m openly ignorant of his keyboard works ... and am looking to a Scriabin-fundi for guidance ... any offers?

I play Etude 2/1 and 8/5. See member recordings for my go at 8/5.

That's 2 Scriabin pieces out of only 8 classical piano pieces that I have 'finished' so far. So yeah I love his music. laugh

Here's another nice one: Etude 8/4 played by Sofronitksy

Absolutely brilliant. In this case, it's almost as if the old but charming recording quality gives it an extra magical touch.

I guess I should recover from my cough attack long enough to post this (again)...... smile
9th Sonata

It's a late sonata, felt by many to be his greatest work.

I'm going through two etudes, op.8 no.2, and op.42 no.5...and a few preludes (op.11 nos. 1, 9,12), and working through some more. I've read through some of his sonatas...but they're too difficult for me right now.

Here's an earlier (but awful and botched) attempt at the C# minor etude...(taken while my mom was doing dishes...)

Working on:
Chopin - Nocturne op. 48 no.1
Debussy - Images Book II

^^ Hey, that's terrific! ^^

Botches and all. smile

It's not much botched, and you really get the spirit right, as well as the basic sound, and the tempo and momentum. The only thing I'd mention is that the first repetition of the main theme -- i.e. on the 2nd page, with the 16th's in the "alto" -- would benefit from being softer, especially at the start. But I realize that part is darn hard to play at all.

The Preludes are a kind of guide to Scriabin's development as a piano composer.

Favorite recordings:

1. Sofronitsky - Sonata 3, particularly the slow movement (live recording from the late 1940s)

2. Horowitz 1965 recording of the Ninth Sonata

3. Simon Barer's recording of the Op.8 No.10 Etude

4. Richter's recording of the Op.42 No. 3 (I think this is the one with the trills) and No. 5 Etudes

There are lots of others, but these come to mind. I'd start with Sofronitsky and Horowitz, though.
