Ok, time to compare two piano prodigies. In your humble opinion, which pianist has a greater chance of making a really big name for himself later in his career? Consider technique and the pianists themselves (No Lang Lang bashing please!). I mean I met Lang Lang and he was such a nice guy, adn Yundi Li seems like a really humble and modest guy. Both have amazing talent and work ethic, so which one?

Who do I think has the better chance for making a really big name for himself later in his career? Lang Lang, for he is already a "big name" in the world of piano, and that will most likely continue. I expect that he will be the greater commercial success.

Who do I think is likely to become the better pianist? In my opinion, Yundi Li.

Yundi Li is great, Lang Lang is the worst pianist currently living.

canadian, you crack me up.

I actually enjoy LL, but I do believe Yundi Li is a better pianist and will hopefully gain popularity.

It seems that Lang Lang just has more luck with commercial success. Either that or a smarter business manager

you know what...we should all stop caring about two asian pianists...they already have cd's out and they are all ready well known, is that good enough for SUCCESFFUL?...does it really matter? get your butts back on the piano and go practice.

Yundi Li hands down. I love his recording of La Campanella!

@virtuoso418: Well he did have that Nike commercial during the Olympics where he played the Grieg Concerto wink

Hi,
Rogethooven, time to step away from the caffiene and look into that anger management class.

I don't really care about either of them, but I prefer Yundi Li's playing.

Probably Li, although it seems far too early to tell much about how either will develop.

My guess is that constancy wins the race. I would expect someone like Grimaud or Andsnes - two pianists who are past their 30s, have made several albums, and who maintain active and fairly high-profile concert appearances - will still be around in 10 or 20 years. If Li/Lang are still doing their thing in five years, then we'll see.

I like the way that Lang Lang can play something differently and the critics complain, but it doesn't bother him. He played Rachmoninov's Pagannini Variations differently, and they came out great. That's the way piano playing should be.

Unfortunately, he can also play very badly and the public doesn't complain. And that's not the way piano playing should be. laugh

Neither; The true great artist of this generation is the young Korean pianist, Dong-Hyek Lim, much less known than LL or Yundi, but indisputably one of the most passionate and poetic artists alive. He's going to be in the upcoming Warsaw Chopin Competition and better to god win.

YES! im going to have to look into Dong-Hyek Lim, since he is Korean. I havent really heard any of the pianists from Korea, so Im hoping that Lim will get the recognition he deserves.
