The Henle Urtext gives cut time.
The Durand edition (revised by Claude Debussy) gives 2/2 time.
The Novello edition (ed. Frank Merrick) gives 2/2 time.
The Peters edition gives cut time.

Here are some recorded timings :

Rubinstein (1946 recording): 1:46
Zayas (1997) 1:56
Pollini (1975) 2:00
Pogorelich (1990) 2:31

I guess Pogorelich didn't have an Urtext!

Interesting - thanks

I've got Wiener Urtext, 1973, Hansen editor

I think Pogorelich is just wired to play slow - maybe he is in a parallel universe with a slower space-time continuum

I just listened to the YouTube recording of his performance of the (Chopin) C sharp minor Prelude, op 45 on the thread about that opus. It's pretty slow, but it's breathtakingly beautifully done, in my opinion.

I own a recording of him playing the Pictures at an Exhibition and he took all the tempos so slowly that I have never listened to it past the Old Castle - maybe i should give it another try

Um, you mean the E minor?

I've never seen anything other than cut common (or 2/2, which is the same thing). Can you name which editions have common time?

Yes, I should have said e minor.
My edition - Wiener Urtext - Bernhard Hansen, 1973
That's got to be an error - quite a serious one I must say
