I think such a Satanic stocking would come with its own heat? whome

I had to rehearse in a rather cold sanctuary last night. Before playing I usually wash my hands. In this particular church the restroom sink has no hot water, and the cold water felt like it was just above freezing (matching the outside temperature).

That is probably the worst thing I could think of doing to my hands right before I had to play. frown

I'm wondering if you all have this problem: my fingers dry out to the point that I can't quite grip the page. mad Some page turns almost take two hands, which is a serious liability for an accompanist!

I also wash my hand in hot water. As for lubrication, I have naturally moist hands (some might call them sweaty), which is a curse most of the time. <Funny how you always want what you don't have. Sigh.>

Now, if I can just keep my toes warm, I'll be all set. smile

the unholy misspelling was for the church musicians who, i'm sure can only take so many organ jokes

Apparently you beat me to it- I didn't read the whole thread.

Apologies,

Well whippen boy, per a discussion on another forum, I'm most grateful you do not play the organ pedals without shoes! Or perhaps we might see these on a gala occasion such as a performance of the Liszt Ad nos? (Talk about a "profane and malignant" pedal part...) laugh

"As for lubrication, I have naturally moist hands (some might call them sweaty), which is a curse most of the time." Akira, I have that problem too! Have you found anything that "cures" it, at least for a few minutes?

Hey Baker, Just out of couriosity, how do physics majors and bricklayers warm their hands on a cold winter day to play Liszt or Chopin Etudes?

[/b]

Some people do more than one thing in their lives. It's sometimes called an avocation. Personally, I warm my fingers under hot running water, dry them off, and then start off my practice routine with some Bach. Some days, though, I'll pop a potato in the microwave, carry it with me, warm up there, and eat it for breakfast. That usually makes my day laugh .

If you want to know how i find time to practice, I usually go to school a couple of hours early and practice some more when I have breaks.

I ask you, though, what makes you think I would know anything about a bricklayer's lifestyle?

Cheers,

Daniel

Mike, I get your winter fingers in the summer too!

(gardener)

I would never do this on the day I am going to practice but will share some great healing gels.

First is BAG BALM. I learned about this from fellow gardeners. We sometimes get those horrid splits on finger 2, thumbside. Bag balm is a vasaline like gel that was created for Cow's Utters. Yup, you read that correctly! It has medicinal properties and in a day or two of using, it cures those splits. I only have to use it in the winter a few times. I use it at night time and not too heavily as it takes a while to soak in. Water would run off and pianos would be ruined! Has a little odor so not for use on Valentine's Day!!!
But...it is my first recommendation. Buy from pharmacy.

Second is Badger Healing Balm, made from olive oil, beeswax, castor oil, oloe vera, oil of sweet birch. Nice. Buy online if you can't find it local. Great stuff.

Third was a gift from another gardener and more for women as it smells feminine. Camille Beckman's Oriental Spice. I use this when I need to go public!
