The moniter brought me out a little too early because the judges were still writing down comment for the previous preformer. So I awkwardly sat and made gestures to my teacher (accompanying from the other side of the church) about how many measures I was going to count off laugh .

Be kind! :p

Thanks signa, in some of the more technical spots I got a little nervious and rushed. Probably one of the main reasons why my score was not in the "winners circle" But a great and fun learning experience it was.

Tell me about it.

If I'm not mistaken, you were watching this at the same time I was! Your user name came up, though mine is different on YouTube, so therefore you might not have known that you had company!

Let's give Matt a thumb for a job well done. This young lad is going to go places... and his presence on this forum is a treasure.

Well, you know what i'll say about your posture - maybe if I re-word: many pianist sit as you do - curving outward the lumber region. Yes, you do need to 'lean' into the piano but from lower down so that your lumber region naturally curves in. I play with blocks under the back legs to assist this. I've just spent all day in a seminar with Professor Earl Owen the renowned hand/face transplant surgeon. One of his jobs is for Sydney Opera. Four famous pianists performed there a short while ago (including Christine Ortiz) and he said they ALL blocked up the back legs. sitting on less of the stool will also help. Your torso/arms are wonderfully free!

I don't know of any concert hall in the world where this performance wouldn't hold it's own! Fantastic. I had to listen 3 times.

I agree totally with KeyboardKlutz on the posture issue. It needs to be put right otherwise there will be problems. You may not think it, but it is a slouch.

Very effective playing, though.

I think kbk means "lumbar" region, not "lumber" ... as the latter would certainly produce a "wooden" performance! laugh (Sorry!)

Great job Matt. I agree with the others here. You'll be going places someday.

Try sitting on the edge of the bench instead of the middle. This will help in your movement.

It wasn't your first competition, was it? Just the first time on YouTube, right?

I thought you played beautifully. Please add more videos to YouTube. They don't have to be from competition! Tell all those people above that you have the lumbar slouch because you're so tall... smile

I thought your performance was very good and it's obvious you are *very* talented. Did the judges mention anything else of interest besides rushing at some technically difficult spots(or maybe that was your own conclusion?)?

What kind of piano did you play? And finally does your screen name mean you are a Debussy fan?

Regards,
PL

Thanks.

The technically difficult rushing was a comment that I myself made. One of the judges marked me down a little for stage presence not totally there. He told me that I really looked like I enjoyed it but I didn't acknowledge my audience enough.

I love to listen to Debussy, playing him is well.. uhhmm...
