Hi. I go to Academy, or High school as most people call it. It has normal courses in differerent subjects. I wish go for a job in music so i wish to work very hard to get good qualifications in music and so on. I was wondering do you think it would make much of a difference if i moved to a music school for my last two years at high school or should i just stay at my current school. I am doing a good course in Music at the moment at this school and i get private tutoring in piano and viola out of school, do you think i should stay in the situation im in at the moment or go to the Music school (keeping in mind that i would have to move to the other side of Scotland to go there)? After High school, either way, i plan to go to a Music univercity in Edinburgh or maybe in London.
Thanks for any comments

I suppose that going to a music-orientated high school can be beneficial to you if you are planning to have a career in music. I don't find it absolutely necessary; I think people can do just as well if they go to a normal high school.

I can only speak from my own experience, but I went to a performing arts high school and it was the most rewarding, gratifying and FUN experience of my life. There were so many things I learned in this high school that I could never have learned at a normal high school. Indeed, it made my road through college that much easier.

If you are serious about pursuing a career in music, I think it is worth your time to at least look into what options are available to you now. Music (especially performance) can be a very cut-throat, competitive area. Do what you need to do to know your competition and stay a step above your peers.

But Virtuoso is right - it's not absolutely necessary.

I was really hoping to find a good Music Academy in Scotland but most ive seen are not what i had hoped, the only difference between my school now and the two music schools ive seen is that their music department is bigger and you get extra music lessons which i get specially at my school just now as well as private. The only good one is really good (St Marys Music school) and it is very difficult to get into (around 64 pupils altogether) and people apply from all over Europe so it is unlikley id get in. But i understand that if i got into a good music academy then it would definetly support me musically better. Also im not confident at meeting new people so moving and living on my own would be slightly overwhelming. I just wish there was a even more Musically centred academy than the ones ive seen so i know it would be worth the trouble. Just telling you this so you get the whole picture.
