I've been trying to locate the printed music for John Alden Carpenter's piano sonata in G minor. I've tried most of the piano sheet music sites on the web, but I've come up dry. Any suggestions?

I hate to show my ignorance, but is there something akin to Books in Print for music that would tell whether a piece of music is available in print?

Hinson says that the manuscript is in the Library of Congress, which I guess means it is unpublished. You might be able to get them to copy it for you, but it may be copyrighted. They would know. His publisher was Schirmers, as far as I can tell. If you need permission to copy it, you would have to apply to them.

Thanks BDB. I think you're right that it is probably unpublished. Seems odd when a piece has been recorded. In any case, thanks for the information and the possible leads.

You might try contacting the performer who recorded it. That person will likely have the score or at least know how to get access to it.

Took me 6 years to track down a score once. Don't give up!
