Uh....because this is the piano forum and not the DP forum?

BTW, here's my recent purchase for my daughter and I. A 1986 Kawai UST-7.

I have a white piano, too, though it is soon to be replaced. Just a matter of scheduling the move now. smile

Here's a not-so-great picture I took today:

Are there any recordings around done on one of those?
Bluthner have issued a number of CDs, see for example here. Well worth listening to.

Hello - I've watched the forums for quite a while, but ellykay's question finally got me to register and join the discussions.

When we purchased our home in 2007, we almost immediately fulfilled our goal of purchasing the best piano we could afford for the front room.

My wife is a church musician, and I'm a committed amateur. We played a number of instruments and the right one for us was a three year old Boston GP193.

We have some nice pics of the piano in its setting, but in choosing pictures, I always come back to these:

While it's a bit challenging to practice this way, we think his habit of sitting on our lap during practice time is very sweet!

Best,

Will

Cute little guy. Welcome to the Forum Berg.

Buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it.

The 193 is my favorite Boston grand model. Such a beautiful scale. Warm, full and even! My church purchased one not so long ago.

Are the little speakers on the floor hooked up the Digital? Just curious if this improves the sound? I use the same model (for early morning practice) but sometimes I practice on it during reg hours and I've wondered about hooking up a very small amp to it...

Hi,

My name is Kris, I am looking for anyone that could help me. I just found a Sterling Derby Conn Co cabinet grand that was on craigslist for free. It is in pretty nice condition minus one scratch on the front, it has a serial number of 16347. How do I go about finding the age of the piano or the history?

Thanks for your time....
p.s. I would love to post a picture but cant for the life of me figure out how....any advice?? Geeze Im needy tonight. LOL
Thanks again!
Kris

Hi Kris welcome to the forum!
Here is a helpful resource:

http://www.bluebookofpianos.com/pianoage.htm#STERLING

Unfortunately it looks like your serial number is one digit shorter than those listed. Maybe someone else can help.

If you do a search for 'post picture' I'm sure you'll find instructions. The procedure has been given in several places none of which I remember off hand unfortunately.

My 1912 New York Steinway & Sons B, lovingly restored in 1985 by A&C. I acquired this piano in 1998 from its sole owner since restoration, a music theory professor at my conservatory - he was moving to NYC and required a smaller instrument!

[Linked Image]

The B is currently located at my home in the United States. I am extremely lucky to have stumbled upon this instrument when I did - it is my absolute grail instrument. It has a heavy, full action, and a lush, warm tone with just the right silver lining.

I moved to Europe a few years ago, ever since which it has been a constant debate in my head as to what to do with my B (I would never, ever consider selling it!). Should I bring it over? If so, when, and what should I do in the interim?

So I bought a Yamaha Clavinova as band-aid solution. It served its purpose well, even if for a bit longer than it should have...

[Linked Image]

...and the time came that I told myself I must finally make a decision. After a few months of continuing debate as to whether to rent or buy (and what - upright or grand), and having visited just about every major London dealer (which my wife graciously tolerated!), I found just the right combination of sound, action, size and price: a new Kawai RX-2.

So last week I took delivery of this beauty:

[Linked Image]

It is obviously a very different instrument from my Steinway, but also quite similar, particularly the warm tone and full action. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to have both a vintage instrument as well as a brand new instrument.

Now back to practicing! laugh

Cheers

Nicholas,

You are so fortunate to have those two pianos. The Steinway B is probably my all time favorite piano- I played a couple in Harvard Square at conservatory I attended for a short while.

I also purchased a Kawai RX-2 and often commented that it's darker, mellower tone achieved some of the similar tonal qualities as some Steinways I've played in the past. Different but somehow familiar?

For the price it's very hard to beat the RX series if value is important to you. I also like the Estonias and even came close to trading up to an Estonia 190, but I had a hard time parting with this gem.
