I don't even know if what I'm asking for even exists. I've always liked jazz, but I was watching this video of Art Tatum interpreting the Dvorak Humoresque,

And the first 4 seconds of playing or so, for some reason, just really appeals to me a lot. Can anyone recommend something with a similar sound? Or even just transcribe that opening? I'm not sure why but Im addicted to that opening 4 seconds.

Do you mean classical played in a Jazz context? If so, there's a couple groups playing like that. Off the top of my head, I can only think of Jacques Loussier Trio.

Doesn't have to be classical-related. I was more interested in just that general kind of sound in the opening there, and wondering if there's any compositions, or sheet music, available that may resemble it. Basically I just want to play something that sounds like that, or even that itself if someone could figure it out by ear.

Though I'm guessing by the lack of response there's not much to it.

Have you heard "Eubie's Classical Rag" by Eubie Blake? Max Morath has a version of it on his "World of Scott Joplin" CD.

I do happen to like some Ragtime and Stride but this particular tune (the version by Max Morath at least) is beautifully played and sails along very smoothly.

He sure plays with the "jazz" touch. He would be lambasted if he played Mozart with that touch.

I would love to hear some Bach played by this master.

Try some of Peterson's solo stuff for more of this style.

it's such a coincidence that my teacher was trying to show me the exact video yesterday but couldn't when the internet connection was broken. he's a classical pianist, but he mentioned Art Tatum in admiration about his techniques and improvisations.

i'm never a jazz fun, but when my teacher tells me something or someone, i usually pay attention.

The "jazz touch" is about the way he uses accents and subtle rhythmic swing (offsets of the eighths) that sets it apart from a typical classical players rendition. Classically trained players are not experienced with that type of accenting and subtle degrees of swing, it's not in the repertoire.
