Sokolov, without out a doubt.

But if I was feeling wealthy, my #2 would be Argerich/Freire and #3 Lupu.

If Argerich/Friere plays La Valse it will be excellent!

Yeah, I bet they will do La Valse and one of the Rach suites, which are awesome.
My top picks:
Lupu
Perahia

Playing Bach and Beethoven??!! That would be amazing; well anything would be amazing really. In my opinion, Horowitz was not the last of the great russians. smile

I would go to see Brendel, while he's still in serviceable shape (and the program is great, too, with Beethoven's op. 110, Mozart's C minor sonata, etc.)...

This is the website:

www.meesterpianisten.nl

Too bad it's in Dutch. Just wanted to tell that almost all concert are recorded and broadcasted on Dutch radio (radio 4 classic) and that within 1 week the concerts can be heard online (usually with some Dutch commercials before it really starts, but that doesn't really matter, right smile ?). Just click on the link in the right (the little box (scroll down little) with some names of pianists and the text:

De recitals worden uitgezonden door
op radio 4

zo 30 apr – 20.00u:
Mikhail Pletnev
zo 7 mei – 20.00u:
Leif Ove Andsnes
zo 28 mei – 20.00u:
Enrico Pace

Alle opgenomen recitals zijn tot een week na uitzending on-line te beluisteren met behulp van RealPlayer

So at this moment there is no online free concert, wait till the week of 30 april to hear Mikhail Pletnev. When it can be heard online you will find a link in the same box.

I don't consider the other 2 as pianists, LangLang & Brendel.

Severin von Eckardstein is an exception on the list of pianists above as he does not have a high international profile. What does the board here think of him ?

I saw Brendel do the above program in March at Walt Disney Hall here in Los Angeles and, not surprisingly, it was spectacular.

Unfortunately, I had to miss Perahia as he did the program listed above at Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa the very same night!

Geez--I wonder if Lang lang will use my edition of the Schumann--hehe. Talented young man, though.
