I play in church services alot, so maybe a few hundred.

Once during a concert at Carnegie Hall, the violinist Rachmaninoff was playing with lost his place in the music and whispered to Rachmaninoff, "Where are we?" Rachmaninoff replied, in all seriousness, "Carnegie Hall".

The most I have played for is about 125 for a "Holiday Review" variety show at my college last November. The theatre was packed full and there were some standing folks. I played a piece I wrote for solo piano. By far my largest audience. smile

couple of hundred... and I swore outload when I went wrong, I was so foolish back then, now I know the only mistake that matters is the one the audience hears, I think I was just disapointed of myself, rather than what people thought!

In a church setting, probably between 400-500. In a concert setting, probably around 200-250.

As a pianist, no more than 100 or so, and that as an accompanist for a singer.

But as a singer--I used to sing the national anthem for graduation events at the University of Minnesota--the numbers are astonomical. For the College of Liberal Arts, I'd say ten thousand.

T'was the "S word" and it was outload, with a board of governers from my school watching.... most of the hall heard, but no one really mentioned it after, just some girl was laughing at the time.... was embarassing, but amusing

PS, I added a whole new twist to Fur Elise.... laugh im not built for public performing

Hmmm.. around 800-900 would be the largest (in a church setting). For other settings, probably not more than 300-500.

concert around 500. Church 0 (I don't even go to church) and night work (00:00-04:00) more than 500 probably and overnight more than 1000 (I played the keyboards and sang a bit)

My website gets lots of traffic really and plenty of hits, but don't think this counts, does it?

For a solo recital, probably around 100-120 people. As a member of an ensemble, around 800-900.

But how about this for a minimum - I did a concert for ZERO people. I was playing with friends at a jazz club and we were having fun, so we kept playing for an hour or so after all the people went home.

I accompanied a recital a week ago that was attended by less than 15 people.

For solo, about 380-400.

Chamber music/ensemble/orchestral piano about 2-3k.

I actually get very nervous performing for small groups or in small places. Studio class was, is, and always will be the hardest place to perform in the WORLD.

Is it because the audiences are generally more educated about the music in studio classes?

At my first ever concert there were 650 people in the audience and it was terrifying!

The next few had a maximum of about 50 and in those cases, the audience were mostly made up of my university friends so it wasn't so bad!

Best regards,
Jonathan

Eeeeks! I'll be playing a little bit in my schools Christmas concert tonight.

Before I left, the principle informs me that over 600 will be there tonight!

I have played for audiences up to about 600 or so people.

Tonight I will be giving a concert in front of around 800, or that is estimated.

It won't be a solo concert, though. I'll be a soloist in a concerto.

Does it make any difference if there are 20 people ot 2000? I agree that the smaller the group the more nerves - after all the setting seems more intimate and people are more likely to be listening. In a hall of 2000 people, how many are really listening to you, or can hear you properly?

Don't get me wrong - I've been to concerts of >1000 people where you can hear a pin drop and cut the tension with a knife, but 2000 people is a crowd, 20 is a bunch of indviduals.

Hi,
44,000 at Washington Park in Denver Colorado with the Denver Symphony. It was quite a thrill I thought that couldn't be topped until 90,000 showed up for a Bruce Willis gig in Montreal. Large crowds have always been less stress for me than very small ones because at a very small gig the people who have heard you practicing all the songs are usually there counting your mistakes.
