Greetings,
I have looked at the Rick Jones Piano store in Beltsville, Maryland. I notice that they sell new Schimmel and Vogel pianos. However they stock many used pianos including, Yamaha, Kawai, and Steinways. They claim to give a 10 year warranty on all the used pianos. My question for this forum is: Has anyone ever needed to use their warranty on any piano bought from Rick Jones Pianos, and what was your experience?

I recently bought a Kawai GS-50 from Rick and while I have had no warranty claims - they appear to be a first rate company to deal with. Rick is very protective of his reputation and I think they will bend over backwards to please each and every customer. Bottom line is this - if you are worried about warranty claims - don't be. It' a first rate operation and Rick and his entire crew will do what they say they will. Dave Hollen - Glasgow, Pa.

With regard to ANY dealer or manufacturer, the purchaser should ascertain what is included, and excluded, in the warranty.

Remember also, that the warranty is in effect so long as the dealer or maker remains in business. When Gibson acquired Baldwin in 2003, it promptly disavowed all warranties given by the prior Baldwin corporation.

Rick is a good guy, and was a good guy even back in 2005 when this thread was started :P

Gee, I guess the OP's warranty has expired by now.

My comments were in no way directed at Rick Jones or any specific dealer.

I bought my Knabe from Rick in 1995. Awesome piano store, awesome guy. I knew Rick from way before that because he tuned the pianos at the church where I was the music minister, even way back in the 80's.

I know Rick. I have dealt with him numerous times. I recommend him to clients looking for a piano. I would say that he honors his warranty better than just about anyone else I know. I have personally been surprised at scope of his warranty as well as his cooperation. I would highly recommend him. (Only one hiccup in 15 years...not bad).

If buying a used piano though, I would still recommend an outside, independent tech to help you choose it. I suggest you find two or three candidates that you really like, and then have the tech pick the best one.
