Hi,

YAMAHA N1X and N3X and latest Clavinova, send polyphonic aftertouch to simulate this (DISKKLAVIER Dialecte) :



Pianoteq can read the Damper position of N1X and N3X, but in 7.5.4, but apply no effect. (Value are not used to simulate damper smooth release)

I've found a way :


1) for any preset used with YAMAHA N1X - N3X, you have to set the NOTE-OFF velocity to :

Note-Off Velocity = [1, 11, 21, 28, 33, 34; 0, 3, 5, 6, 9, 127]



(Yamaha seems to use Polyphonic AFT value 20-33 or 20-40, very subtle)

2) Convert polyphonic Aftertouch to note off, with specific note off velocity : (here with Bome translator midi pro)



and now it's work
I've the Smooth release like internal Yamaha Sound for any Pianoteq presets.

Pianoteq developpers could integrate this directly for all YAMAHA / and latest Clavinova that use Polyphonic Aftertouch to simulate this
But here the soluce.

This is very interesting stuff, but perhaps due to language barrier, can you clarify if the following is what you're doing?

1. Pianoteq supports note-off velocity, but doesn't apply it when controlled by AvantGrands, because although PTQ can read Disklavier XP language, it ignores polyphonic aftertouch values, which is Yamaha's proprietary way to implement note-off/smooth release.

2. So you use a separate app to intercept the MIDI from the N1X, read the XP aftertouch value, and translate that to a Note-off velocity, which you then forward on to Pianoteq.

3. Thereafter, Pianoteq will implement its note-off velocity functionality when controlled by the N1X?

On the matter of Gombessa’s #2, I’d like to know if the ‘separate app’ is only needed once to make these changes/translations (permanent), or if the app needs to always be on/open?

And why so much complication; why doesn’t this work out of the box?

I think it's because Yamaha deputized their use of Disklavier MIDI-XP for the AvantGrand, which is really just an Enspire ST without the player functionality. Using the aftertouch value in XP, they can track actual real-time key position (not just a single note-off signal) which they use for smooth release and note-off. I think it's the kind of thing that lets them to stuff like non-sounding partial key presses (see 9:09 below) or non-lifting re-strikes.

It doesn't work out of the box because it would require Pianoteq to custom code behavior just for XP-MIDI. Which they could do. But presumably the AvantGrand/Disklavier market is quite minuscule for bother.

Latest Clavinova have Smooth release too.

run MIDIPIPE (freeware : no CPU cons. and light ) with Pianoteq N1X .fxp preset with this

and select MIDI PIPE, midi IN in PIANOTEQ :
