Hi folks:

I am new here, but not new to the human race. I am 82, have played guitar since the age of 15 and am still learning. Due to suffering a couple of I.T.As , I've had to to put the guitar aside, more or less, because the strings now really hurt my fingers, despite 60 year old callouses. I still play but only for short periods, and might manage a couple of 32 bar standards before I have to rest! So I don't gig any more.

Thus I have returned to the piano, because that just involves concentration, rather than the physical effort of holding and playing a Gibson L5! On piano, I played a few 'three-chord-trick' songs, shown to me by my dear Mum, in my teens. All I could do though was play in Gb.

I am getting along not too bad. I just heard Christian Fuchs, on YouTube, play his 'blue' version of 'My Funny Valentine', as a tutorial. Not a difficult arr., but a beautiful one, which I am determined to perfect.

It's a struggle soaking up the ability to find the chords, among the trenches and hummocks of the piano keys, but it's coming.

So cheers everyone and keep practising.

Hi Brenda, Danny and John, welcome to Piano World. Please check out the Adult Beginners Forum, where a lot of people hang out who either have started with the piano as adults, or who have re-started. Could be a good place for you John in case you want to start a thread. And Danny, maybe you can give some advice. And Brenda, if you are still around, also welcome!
