I have an upright Rud. Ibach Sohn piano I purchased in Germany - understood that it is over 110 yrs old. Trying to find out if it is worth trying to sell or should I donate it as I am moving and do not plan to move it with me. Any thoughts?

Hire a good tech to come and take a look at it for you. If the piano has not had anything other than tunings in the past 110 years, its not going to be worth much. Pianos do have a life span - 60 years +/- before they need some pretty major ($$) work done. And not all of them are worth rebuilding. But only a qualified piano technician will be able tell you for sure. Good luck! Jodi

Hi Marta,

welcome to the forum. smile

Here in Germany an old Ibach upright would go for EUR 5k/6k if it is less than 100 years old AND fully restored. Most old Ibach uprights are overdamped (and sometimes straight strung) which, AFAIK, makes it difficult to maintain and rebuild them. There not worth much on my side of the pond.

An unrestored Ibach upright more than 100 years old would fetch you EUR 500-700 over here at most. Depending on overall condition, of course.
I'm not familiar with the US market but from what I've learned on this board I'd say that the figures will be similar to or even below the German ones.

If you have the serial number of your piano you can find out its exact age at http://www.ibach.de/
