I know this is not a topic particularly about the piano as an instrument but I had been wondering when news of Russian artists within the crisis of Ukraine would surface. Check out NPR’s article of today titled “performing artists are speaking out against Putin”

I wonder if Valentina Lisitsa is going to tweet something. In 2015 it cost her a gig in Toronto, as if she was going to give a speech instead of playing the piano.

As a Georgian, we have had a similar experience in 2008 and occupation from Russia still persists - 20% of our country is occupied by Russia. I would like to show full support to Ukraine and contrary to many beliefs, I do not think that art and politics should be differentiated. Art is the highest form of self expression and not speaking out is only a self realized censorship, which should not have any place in art.

All my wishes go in favour of the good people of Ukraine. I hope that with the help of Russian army they get rid of the nazi tyrants that have been torturing and killing them for the last 8 years, and bring themselves a future of peace and prosperity.
