Hi,

I'm the happy owner of a 1981 Euterpe 120 made in langlau and a few weeks ago I started to hear a high pitch ringing, like a bell, when I press mi3. Here is the sound I hear.

My technician think it's too clear to be an issue with the piano itself so there must be something vibrating in the room. But I could'nt find anything and I hadn't made any changes in the room before I started to hear this noise.

Any ideas of what (other than something in the room) could cause this ?

Thanks !

I don't know if it's your microphone or my (cheap) ear buds but I can't say that I hear it. The lower note sounds like it has some pretty loud harmonics, maybe something that voicing could help with, but I don't know if that's what you're hearing.

How do nearby notes compare? Does the ringing occur on other notes (try Mi, Si, and La)

I believe I can hear it and my best guess it has something to do with sympathetic resonance. Something in or around the piano might be loose and picking up the vibration and resonating with this pitch frequency and its octaves.

EDIT. Perhaps it's one of the higher strings where there are no dampers?

It's clearly something rattling due to a sympathetic resonance. It could be inside the piano or outside. Your tech heard it in real life and thought it was in the room. I'd probably trust that professional opinion.

You say you haven't made any changes in the room but it could be just the slightest thing like a pen sitting on a shelf. Almost anything really. Have you made some changes to the instrument that makes you suspect that rather than the room? If so what?

If your tech couldn't find it when she was in the room then we haven't much chance from thousands of miles away.

Good luck. Rattles like that can be difficult to find.

Well it's also on the do but nothing like the mi. I'll keep looking and if I can't find it, I might be moving in a few months so I'll know then if it was something on the room. Maybe it's in my neighbour flat so that's why I can't find haha

The filament in my piano lamp bulb started vibrating and made a high pitched sound. Like others have said, it can be lots of things in the room that have started vibrating.
