Was the Wm. Knabe company itself still making pianos in the early ‘80’s — or did another company own them at this time? I know Samick makes them now - but that began in 2001 - I believe??

Wm Kanbe was a piano manufacturing company in Baltimore, Maryland from the middle of the nineteenth century through the beginning of the 20th century, and eventually continued as a division of Aeolian-American at East Rochester, New York until 1982. Some folks might argue that production of "real" Knabes stopped in 1908. But production of the Aeolian built Knabes stopped in 1982. Pianos bearing the Knabe name were built by Young Chang (both in Korea and China) before Samick started building them about 20 years ago.

Great piano? No. Decent consumer grade pianos (i.e., the Knabe Concert Series)? Yes.
