I can play Garritan CFX (ASIO driver) from my Kawai ES110 on my Windows 10 laptop.
I have not been able to record it or to get it to play from my Sibelius Ultimate software.

I have:
Garritan CFX FUll in the Free Aria Player (It is not necessary to load a MIDI file in order to create a WAV file of your playing. Note that recording into a WAV file does not also create a MIDI file of your performance.).

Cubase LE AI Elements 11 (FREE version, very confusing)
Audacity (not ASIO)

Sibelius (not recognizing the Garritan Aria plugin)

Has anybody had success with simple audio .wav file recording of real-time performance with Garritan CFX?

Hello,

@RinTin, I don't know all the software you mention, but my general thoughts on this are:

-> The ASIO driver only relates to your speaker/headphone output (ASIO4ALL if you use the audio out of your laptop, or another ASIO-category driver that would have been included with your external audio interface, if that is what you use). As far as I know, this is not at all related to recording to a .wav file.

-> So, some software must take care of recording into a .wav file. Generally, for such purpose a virtual instrument would be loaded and played inside a DAW, and MIDI input as well as recording output (to a .wav) is something you'd need to set up within that DAW.

Hope this helps you a step further in your recording quest.

Cheers and happy recording,

HZ

I just use the Garritan CFX standalone app. You need to click on the 'eject' button and select where you want to save the output (.wav file), and then hit the 'record' button.

I prefer the daw way and only record midi, with rendering done offline afterwards (live or delayed through a VST is exactly the same thing). But in Garritan I have occasionally used waht Calavera mentioned and used the recording function (which I don't like because it is a clumsy system and I am never sure if it is actually recording). In a daw you set up a midi track or audio track (or both...) and have visual feedback in what is recorded.
