After having a Young Chang for several years that I left behind in Brooklyn, I am now getting a 1923 Mason & Hamlin BB for my music room here in Southern California. The instrument was overhauled in 2014. I was lucky to find this at World Class Piano Gallery run by Dan Wilson near Atlanta. I listened to Dan play it on FaceTime as well as getting a report from a local RPT:
Piano inspection.
Mason &Hamlin BB#32279
1)Tuning pins have 130-145 torque.
Really good to hold tuning.
2)New pin block.
3)New soundboard.
4)Refinished cast iron plate.
5)New strings and base strings.
6)New dampers
7)New Hammers-Shanks-Flanges
8)New Repetitions
9)New keytops-Refinished Sharps
10)Refinished Cabinet-Satin ebony.
The piano is in excellent condition technically and cosmetic appearance is excellent.

This should be arriving Monday or Tuesday...can't wait!

(I posted some photos in the "Piano Photo Gallery" here that the technician who evaluated the piano sent me, but I cannot figure out how to link them to this post. They are under the same title as this post.)

Congratulations on your new piano! That's a really nice upgrade for you!

I notice in some of the pics that the hammershanks appear to be resting on the bumper felts. This would be normal after installation of new parts unless the action was subsequently re-regulated after a period of break-in use. If this was not done you may notice a lack of aftertouch on affected keys as a result. Even if the current regulation is adequate, refining all the small details as would be done in a full concert prep can turn a great piano into a sublime one. For this you may need to search as hard (or harder) for a piano tech as you did for the piano! Good luck and enjoy your BB!
