Hi Everyone,
Sorry I'm asking for help again in identifying something heard on TV. The Peter Sellers doc on BBC4 the other night had a piano piece in the background from 11.08 - 12.06 which I'd love to identify, can anyone help?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000j4c1/peter-sellers-a-state-of-comic-ecstasy

(I think this link only works for UK due to licensing requirements, sorry everybody outside UK)

As a bonus the opening string music - think that's Shostakovich? Definitely heard it in a sci-fi film, possibly Alien?

Thanks, everyone,
Ian

The opening music is Gayane's Adagio by Khachaturian, which can be heard in 2001: A Space Odyssey. James Horner used parts of it when he composed the soundtrack of Aliens.

I don't recognise the piano piece.

Thanks MRC (great piano collection by the way!).

I should have realised the string music was too Romantic to be Shostakovich!

The reason the piano piece bugs me is that I know I've heard it before, a long time ago, but I can't be sure it was on the piano. This could be a transcription of something, but with ony a minute of music to go on it's hard to pin down a composer's style...

Is there really no way to make this accessible (legally, of course) in other countries? Maybe you could video a cat or something on your handheld device and have the music playing in the background. Then post it to YouTube and share here. I'm really curious about the piano piece . . . (and I love the Catchaturian lol)

How do you catch a turian?

By the ar(a)m.

I guess it doesn't work quite as well when written.

Thans Sifi! Yes, it's on YT under title 'Peter Sellers - A state of comic ecstasy' so everyone can join in the fun - runs from 11.08-12.06.

Thanks in advance. And thanks again to everyone who identified the K/Catchaturian, I really need to listen to more of his stuff (I've played and loved the Toccacta for over 20 years now...)

Works better IMO. I wouldn't have got it otherwise!

Not so sure if this one works better spoken or written, but here it goes:

How do you make a hormone?

Don't pay her.

I suppose its effectiveness when spoken depends on the dirtiness of the hearer's mind.
