So for now I'd like to at least get some better sound than these sad 12w speakers. Planning to order one of these JBL 305PMKII's and hook it up and it got me to wondering two things:

1) Is there any reason to run two/stereo? Since the left and right sides of the piano are so close as it is it doesn't seem L/R would really matter.

2) Where is the best place to position one of these? On the floor firing up is what I'm thinking due to space constraints.

There are two reasons for "stereo" rather than "mono" sound (in this situation):

For the player, the bass notes really do come mostly from the left side of the piano, and the treble notes really do come mostly from the right side of the piano:

. . . so for the player, "stereo" lends a sense of realism.

For the audience, I'm inclined to agree with you -- stereo doesn't make a lot of difference. Which is one reason that keyboard players, in bands, often use a "mono" feed to the band's sound system.

As for speaker placement:

. . . the only unbreakable (more-or-less) rule is that _your_ ears should be
. . . more-or-less in line with the tweeters.

Tweeters tend to be directional, and you don't want your ears to be _behind_ the speakers, ever. (that's why stage players use "stage monitors" (or in-ear monitors) pointed toward them, rather than relying on the sound they hear from the "house system".

Hence the large number of people who put their speakers on a wall, above the DP, pointed toward their heads.

If you're planning on optimizing speaker placement for an audience, there are other considerations.

Did you finally add those speakers? I'm looking for some loudspeakers for the same piano.

Whetehr this is still continuing 9shrug0 who knows? but it's interesting.
What I always wanted to do with my last 3 slabs was tp tap into their speaker outputs, and substitute better speakers.

Might have been difficult on the P515 since theyre not bad. But the Roland FP50, and my current squeeze, ES110 are more than a tad deficient. In any case, with the latter I cannot tap into the speaker system at all since it possesses no lone-ins or audio -in.
But if the speaker grill is detachable from the outside, you're in with a chance.
