Hi.

This weekend I’m going to Berlin an wonder if any of you have suggestions for good piano stores/showrooms for both digital and acoustics? Maybe there’s an area where such facilities are located together?

For Kawai, you can try these stores:

Kind regards,

The JustMusic Flagship store in Berlin is worth a visit, 4-5 floors of music gear; and the biggest keyboard / digital piano section (more gear on that floor than any other place else I’ve been); but for acoustic pianos, it’s better to visit other stores in Berlin.

Berlin has a lot of good pianos stores - but most of them only carry acoustic / silent pianos. For digital pianos there are only: Just Music (very noisy, you can't really test the speaker system - but they have all the relevant digital pianos pianos of Yamaha, Casio, Kawai and Roland and a few small entry Yamahas like the b1/b2; unfortunately they didn't have the Yamaha N1X and Kawai NV-5/10 the last times I visited, only the NU1X) and the Bechstein centrum (for Casio GP) and Bechstein / W. Hoffmann / Zimmermann pianos.

If you like to have tips for acoustic piano stores, feel free to send me a pm.

Thank you all for your suggestions. My plans for tomorrow is now to visit the Bechstein Centrum and JustMusic😊

@Kawai James- thank you for your list of Kawai retailers in and around Berlin. If I may ask, do you have any info about if any/which one that would have the NV10s & NV5s for demo? I would love to try them out😊🎶.

So now I'm on my way home after a few days in Germany. I followed your suggestions and visited the Bechstein Centrum in Berlin and WOW what a store! A beautiful place with a huge selection of all their models (except for the D-282 which they currently didn't have in the exhibition). The staff was really friendly and I was allowed to try all the instruments. I also tried the Vario system on several different instruments. Since this is a digital forum I'd like to say something about the Vario system. It was good and the tone of the sampling is beautiful. However, I found the velocity response quite jumpy and there seems to be quite few velocity layers. Sometimes I could also sense a slight latency int the lower registers but this could be a regulation issue. I asked if the sound source is the same as the Bechstein Digital Grand and he said that is from the same source but the computer version is much deeper due to memory restrictions in the Vario pianos. I really liked the tone of it though so now I'm thinking if maybe I should get the digital grand software😊 A question for you who have it- how does it compare to other high end sampled library like VSLs pianos or Garritan CFX?

I also visited the JustMusic store, and whilst they have a huge selection of everything they didn't have the hybrid pianos from Yamaha or Kawai except for the NU1X. I got the chance to try the CA99 though and I really liked it, great action and sound.

Oh by the way, I also visited the Grotrian-Steinway factory😊
