Hello,

I have a Kawai MP7 keyboard and I'm trying to connect it to my computer to use it as a MIDI device in MainStage. I connect it with a USB cable using "USB to Host" port, however the computer isn't receiving any signal. What's Wrong?

I've updated the keyboard to it's latest software and my computer is running macOS Catalina.

Thanks.

Hi....the Note OFF occasions may not be missing. Glance through the MIDI Monitor log for Note ON occasions with ZERO Velocity. Most synths do it that way since sending a Note ON occasion with zero Velocity is more effective than sending another Note OFF order.

Obviously, that will not clarify why you have hanging notes, yet it merits a look just to get what might be going on.

Have you turned off the MP7’s tone generator? - “local off” button located at top left of control panel under “Global”.

Hello StanZ,

I've just responded to your enquiry sent via the Kawai Global website, but will paste the contents below, just in case:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Kawai Japan, and for purchasing the MP7.

Regarding your query, may I first what kind of cable are you using in order to connect the MP7 to your Mac? Are you using any adapters/hubs etc.?

Next, please check the following page to ensure that the MIDI device is configured correctly in macOS:
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/audio-midi-setup/ams875bae1e0/3.5/mac/10.15

Finally, on the MP7 side, please perform a Factory Reset to ensure that the instrument is restored to the default settings. By default, the MP7 is configured to transmit MIDI from the EXT2/EXT3 zones. However, if these zones are turned off, or their default assignment has been changed, MIDI may not be transmitted.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
James
