I saw that as well. So June in Southern California? I like being there in January better. Maybe they should move it to Chicago.

Cool, now I have several months additional before I don't go to NAMM!

Good idea. They can issue bullet proof vests to everyone at the front door.

They'll realize that was a mistake after the show, it's miserable in SoCal in the summer time! 100+ degrees... yeah no thanks.

If choosing location based on temperature alone, then Alaska should be in for a treat. 😅

Since NAMM is not open to just anyone, I’m sure there will be plenty of attendees among professionals. No dealer will likely say ‘No thanks, sounds too hot’.

LA is the obvious location as it probably has the most musicians in the country who could potentially attend. Organizers want the most attendees possible. Doesn’t hurt that it also has good flight connections to Asia.

Musicians are one of the groups that aren't able to join NAMM. I looked at joining and was surprised at the following quote from the NAMM web page:

Companies that Do NOT Qualify for Membership:

Bands, Churches, City Schools, Concert Promoter, DJs, Film and Movie Companies, Gaming Companies, Home Recording Studios, Karaoke Companies, MP3 Player Companies, Music Clubs and Venues, Theaters, Performing Artists or Musicians, Private Music Teachers, Producers, Production Companies, Radio Stations, Record/CD Stores, Recording Labels, Songwriters, and Studio Audio Engineers

There are certainly dealers who do not attend NAMM anymore (Hi Keith!). True, I don't think the weather will keep people away who desire to see what is new from the industry. Also, some industry professionals kick off a vacation with a trip to NAMM. There is also the element of seeing colleagues and getting to know others who might support what you do.

(I would still enjoy it more in Chicago again) smile

I was cheering for Chicago until I found out I'm not eligible to attend. I've sold 2 used digital pianos, does that make me a dealer?
With the decline of the piano industry it might be a good promotion to add an extra day to the convention for the public to attend.

Non-NAMM members can attend as well and the requirements are quite loose. Anyone can claim to be a music educator, for example, and attend.

The website lists the documentation you need to bring if you claim to be in any of the categories like music educator. Have you been successful attending and how did you do it?

NAMM is larger than the piano industry.

In the recent past, PTG members could go. (FWIW, I haven't looked at the current requirements.)

Ok, the July newsletter says this:

PTG and NAMM Partner for 2022
PTG is pleased to announce we’ve again partnered with the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and will offer PTG members a discounted registration fee to attend the 2022 NAMM show in Anaheim, CA January 20-23. More details and information will be available in upcoming issues of the PTG E-News.
