This is the first time I have heard about an Edwardian house party. Googling I find that it is about horse racing and shooting parties, and changing clothes for every meal. But maybe not Edwardian house parties in Bulgaria?

The only shooting was "shooting the breeze" and we certainly did plenty of that.

Not since the very first party. In those days I had 2 Labradors and a Spaniel, After quite a heavy night one of the guests was clearly in need of fresh air and exercise. I gave him my gun, a box of cartridges and told him to take the dogs and do some shooting. The ogs knew exactly how to work together as a team. To my surprise he came back after about 10 minutes. He said he had run out of dogs.

Thank you so much Philip! I would love to come. But I cannot promise anything. We have now had two years without travelling abroad. My elderly mother lives in the Netherlands (I am Dutch) and she is on the top of my list.

And google maps tells me that it would only take 415 hours to walk from Amsterdam to Sofia!

Ah, but I have a bicycle, so it would only take 138 hours! Not even a week.
(Who needs to sleep anyway?)

One very common form of transport, here, is a horse and cart. I just had some firewood delivered in that way.

The village is actually very close to the rail hub of Levski which is on the main line from Sofia to the Black Sea so communications are excellent.

I am hoping to have the party to coincide with the annual folklore festival. The 2022 folklore festival is promised to be the biggest for years lasting for several days. Until you have heard massed Bulgarian bagpipes, especially when played by enthusiastic amateurs, your life is incomplete.

Certainly no need for sleep, rest, food, or any of those details! You can make up for all of that when you arrive.
And as a bonus, I imagine the roads are sublime all the way to Phillip's house!

But, alas, google maps doesn't estimate time for horse and cart!

On horses as transport the local gypsies were racing horses last week. The amazing thing is that they were so doing on the main road.

Maybe Animisha and I could rent horses and carts in Amsterdam and race all the way to Philip's house!

We can alternate who sits in front and who takes a nap in the carriage.

And what a lovely restful trip it would be!

Perhaps Philip could hire one of these people to come and fetch us!
