Custom Fazioli’s

The only design I like is The Butterfly. I’m fairly sure I’d really enjoy the sound and feel of any of them.

Oh, my.

"The Cloud" kind of looks like my kitchen table when I put too many Post-Its on it.

"The Flying Fazioli" reminds me of the Steinway grand at the Frank Lloyd Wright residence in Oak Park, IL. As I recall he stuck the keyboard end through the wall into his "childrens" room - the tail hung over a staircase. Unlike the Fazioli, it appeared to be a "stock Steinway of the period.

I could live with the "Origami" Fazioli.

I wonder about the sound of the "Alberni". I would certainly find it distracting to play.

I very much like the "Butterfly" Fazioli. Does it bother anyone else the way they have the lid propped without it being folded back at the front?

As for the "Telus", if they'd made the bench adjustable, I could live with it.

As a coda to this post, I opine that there is something to be said for "plain (but very well done) black" pianos. As a performer I want to draw attention to the music, not the piano on which I am playing. It's a matter of "taste" and preference. I'm glad there's enough interest in pianos that Fazioli is getting commissions for VSPs like the ones in the cited post.

I think Baldwin did a better job of putting mirrors on pianos when they did it for Liberace.

It should be called the Post It Fazioli. I like some of the more traditional Fazioli art cases but none of those on this thread.

I prefer the M.Liminal. And I didn't even like the Prometheus movie that much.

EDIT: The flimsy note stand would be a dealbreaker however...

Re the Cloud Fazioli...

Quote
The overall effect is much like that of a cloud.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but the overall effect is nothing like that of a cloud at all. whome

I kinda like the Kengo Kuma Fazioli though.... And the Fazioli Butterfly, I also always thought the old butterfly grands were neat. I mean the one on the right here:

Then there's this one, which looks very much like a stapler....

That's the M.Liminal I mentioned earlier.

The note stand (I don't know if it's the proper English word; I mean the part of the piano where you put the score) is a deal breaker. I mean, a 400.000 € piano, and you offer this flimsy plastic excuse of a note stand full of holes, where you can't even write on, when you have the score on single sheets? No thanks.

The Schimmel Pegasus has the same problem.
I'd rather have a Yamaha YUS5. It's an upright, but at least it has a note stand worthy of that name.

My understanding is that music racks with holes were designed to transmit the piano’s sound toward the player. If you want to notate a single sheet, just put an anthology behind the paper.

Didn't you know? You can have a sturdier stand option for just €1000 extra.

No, I didn't know that. But that's good to know.
I guess if I had 400.000 € to spend for a piano, then 1000 € more wouldn't really matter. wink

Haha yes. And it would nicely complement the handsome $999 Apple monitor stand.

As I understand it, these Fazioli’s are made for cutting edge designed architectural hotels and art museums. Yeah the cloud Fazioli from the picture looks like a messy managers desk or computer monitor with a bunch of Post It notes.

Dusting would be left to hotel or museum staff I guess. Definitely not my cup of tea but each has a well crafted Fazioli inside the art case, so I guess it’s not a total waste of wood and felt.

I thought you’d be amused by the way those with great wealth live and what they purchase for new luxury hotels.

The Alberni/Kengo Kuma piano looks like it's made of popsicle sticks! How do you move the piano without breaking it?

j&j - Thank you for posting what you did. It made for interesting reading. As for the pianos, the uber rich and powerful WILL, do and have found ways to buy things that are extraordinary. These pianos certainly fall into that category for me, and I repeat that I am glad that Fazioli has received the commissions to make them. From what I read about his background, he is carrying on the family tradition his father started making fine furniture (presumably for the very wealthy) and combining it with his own passion for making fine pianos.
