OP wouter79 5000 Post Club Member W Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 5,870	I just hit upon this video Apparently the first audio recordings were made by Eduard-Léon Scott de Martinville in Paris which he already patented in 1857. This is 20 years before Edison "invented" his Phonograph and 30 years before he patented it. And mr. de MartinVille apparently even added a time code so that we can correct the playback speed as well

Whether or not he was first to invent, he was the most successful at getting product to market. And part of what he was selling was Thomas Edison.
