Quick question guys. I’m a little confused about the Kronos pianos

Do they have a Kronos store where you can buy pianos designed for the Kronos? Like Nord pianos?

And if so does that mean the grandstage and Kronos offer upgrades or expansion at a later date?

I read somewhere a musician purchased a piano for the Kronos for 199$

I believe Kronos is made by KORG.

There is a korg Kronos that goes for $3700-4000. Are you sure they got it for $199?

See https://shop.korg.com/kronos

@progpiano : the $199 price is for the Kronos add-on… not the Kronos itself.

Do the Add on's work with the grand stage from korg?

Was just wondering if the Store works similar to how Nord does it.

and IF someone purchases a Kronos or Grandstage from Korg, will it be upgradeable through these add ons at a later date, future-proofing the devices to a certain extent.

Not familiar with the history of Korg or their stores.

Korgs Digital Keyboards in general are are stand alone and are not designed to be supported by Korg with new release sounds. There have been a couple of exceptions like the Italian Grand realeased for the Pa4x. Instruments like the Kronos do have a reasonable amout of User Memory but it is generally up to the user to create the new sounds. Some people not related to Korg have released some free sounds like this one

And others want you to pay for them.

My understanding at least -

Kronos can be purchased from most big retailers in the USA - Sam Ash, Guitar Center, Sweetwater. Which stores in your area, I'm not sure. Add on pianos are just for the Kronos. Can be purchased from Korg online or a 3rd party online. Grandstage is not upgradeable at all.

Kronos allows you to add multiple gigabytes of samples, an additional SSD. If purchased from Korg, these stay with the instrument - so if you buy a new Kronos, the samples don't get transferred. It comes with rhythms/accompaniment (Karma). But the action is unduly stiff, which to me was a deal breaker. I wouldn't recommend purchasing one without trying.

Korg Kronos is a workstation with serious amount of user-available sample memory. You can load your own samples and play it. You can as well buy those additional samples from 3rd party (KApro being the most popular developer). If I created sounds for Kronos and you're willing to pay me, you can technically 'buy sounds for Kronos' from me.

I have a Korg Kronos 2 61.
You can buy add on libraries from the Korg website, these include many huge multi sampled pianos. The Kronos supports two different engines for piano the HD1 engine which is available to third party developers and users who wish to create their own instruments. And SGX2 engine which is exclusively for acoustic piano and AFAIK only Korg make add on libraries for it.
Korg doesn’t make a habit of sharing libraries between different products in its range, although I expect there is commonality in many of the source samples.
So it is highly unlikely that you can use GrandStage libraries on the Kronos or vis versa.
In fact unless you get Korg’s consent you can’t even share commercial libraries between two Kronos’s.
I too did not like the Kronos RH3 action. So I bought the K2 61 and drive it from my RD2000 or PX5s.
My view of the pianos that Korg provide with the Kronos 2 is that there is more than enough quality and range to never need to buy any extra. The biggest challenge is getting the SGX2 engine setup to properly match the input velocity dynamics with the sample set.
It’s a multi stage process that takes a fair amount of time and experimentation to get right. But in the end the pianos are good.
