No you should not wear any ring even wrist watch when playing piano that creates weight thus change the center of gravity in your arm

It took me a while to get used to a wedding band after getting married a few years ago, but I will say I've always worn a wristwatch and never thought twice about it. The only times I play in public these days is in church every Sunday and then I'm wearing a suit and tie. Like several others have mentioned, to me that feels appropriate and I feel I perform better in general when I'm dressed well.

The pianist's outfit is a trade-off between the show and the playing quality. I prefer the playing quality but I suspect most of the public prefers show over playing quality. The people on this forum are probably not the average public.

I turned pages for chamber music performances by my college teacher often, and one time became the guardian of his keys, wallet, watch, and wedding band, which were all weighing him down. The teacher I started with used to visit my childhood home and left her wedding ring on my piano several times; she'd always slip it off and put it on the music desk while playing. Just think, I could have kept those gold rings for melt value. laugh

Isn't his just a thin wedding band; not a heavy, gaudy ring? If I took off my wedding band every time I played in public my wife would be annoyed, and I would have lost and replaced a lot of rings by now.

Yes. Unequivocally.

I think Aldo Ciccolini is a sensationally good and underrated pianist but he wears two large gold rings(not the standard wedding band) while playing and this looks inappropriate to me. OTOH videos show closeups of his hands that few, if any, in the audience would see so maybe this may be inappropriate only to some watching a video.

Here's a video of him playing two concerti in one night at the age of 85:

Are there any other professional pianists who wear large rings while performing?
This is an incredible performance... and at 85. Wow...

It just occurred to me, don't think I have seen them yet (I didn't pay attention when I saw the Piano Princess playing in the Taj Mahal casino years ago), but how about painted (and/or long) finger nails?
