Well, judging by the sounds, it seems like a sound generator integrated circuit (or the ROM memory which stores the samples) has gone bonkers... I guess you have tried all kind of RESETs to the unit already. Did this happen from one day to another, abruptly, or did it happen slowly, going worse with some time?

All in all, it does not seem like anything fixable remotely, if the RESET has already been done. Also, does that unit support any kind of firmware upgrade?. If so, I would reinstall it, just in case.

Is it trying to play one the built-in demos? Could it be that a pushbutton switch is stuck?

After you exhaust the obvious suspects ... it will be time to seek out a repair shop.

I think you will have to consult your dealer for that I'm afraid, if a restart didn't to the trick. That sounds like something is rather broke.

What exactly is done on the video?

What is the expected outcome?

Isn't it just a problematic MIDI file where some instrument is transposed many octaves up?

Where does the mechanical sounding noise come from? Are the keys being played on the video?

Does the piano play normally when played normally?

Which Clavinova CVP model is that?

In the video it is playing on auto..

It does a ping noise on keys randomly while playing

I have tried a reset

It has happen over time, getting worse, when it started it wasn’t every time you played it now it is.

It is about 10 years old

To me it sounds (no pun intended) like a power supply problem (degrading along the time) or bad contact on cabling connectors. I will require opening the DP for inspection/troubleshooting.

OK. Knowing the exact model could help.

I would open it and measure all power supply rails, first with a DVM and then with oscilloscope, to look for noise on them.

All in all, it seems that, if you are not technically inclined, it is best to take it to a professional.

Thank you for the help everyone! It is a CVP-401.

We will open it up and take some measurements. If we can’t find a fix after following the directions, we’ll call in a pro!

One of the things you must look for is bulging capacitors on the power supply board.
