I’m desperate to identify a short piano piece from my youth. I can remember it to play approximately but would love to obtain the music again.

I posted last week about this – so apologies if you’ve already seen that – and thankyou for the replies to that post.

But reposting now as someone suggested I create a score as that may help for identification – see the links below.

I’ve also re-recorded the piece as far as I can remember it – again link below.

So it would be great if anyone recognises this.

Some (possibly) useful info!
- The score is very rough and probably not that accurate even to my playing but I have battled with the likes of Musescore and this is as good as I can do…
- It’s in two parts – because the second part is really triplets and I couldn’t work out how to do that… so I altered the time signature from 3/4 to 9/8 to fudge it….
- So as above it’s 3/4 time in in Eb major
- It was the first piece in a book of easy/intermediate pieces – in the mid 1970’s
- I THINK it’s Beethoven and could have been called Sonatina. I don’t think Ecossaise or Bagatelle.

Thank you for reading this far!

Standby, I'll try a slightly larger audience.

When you play, never mind who listens to you. R.Schumann.

Around 1.11 it sounds rather Schubertian. Maybe early Schubert is a possibility?

I wouldn't say beet or Schubert, more Mendelsohn or Schumann. I've sent it to a friend who may know.

If it was Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn or Schumann - it would be a very weak Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn or Schumann cry

I'd assumed there was plenty missing.

"It was the first piece in a book of easy/intermediate pieces – in the mid 1970’s"

The anthology might still be in print - or available in used copies. Have you tried searching for it on the internet?

Is there a description of the cover ? A publisher? Used book stores can be searched online with a clue about the anthology

Yes, this is Beethoven, or at least was in an anthology of easy Beethoven pieces I had in the 70s published by Ashdown in the UK. I think it's still at my parent's house and if I ever get a chance to visit again I can check. As to the title I think it was called Minuet in E flat. The final section after your score finishes consists of triplets in the right hand descending and alternating through arpeggios of B flat seventh then E flat with left hand just underpinning with single notes (difficult to describe music sorry!).

Thanks Bruce and Dogperson. The OP really went above and beyond trying to reconstruct the piece from memory, Not only did I want to help him out, but I was intrigued by the fact that the piece could be by Beethoven. Kudos to IMSLP - a wonderful resource.

You guys are AMAZING!!!!

Thank you all so much!

This means a great deal to me as it is THE piece that made me love the piano when I was in my teens after years of being one of those "on the brink of giving up" people.
I'm now 60 and have for the past 40 years just played modern gospel songs in church by ear but returned to having lessons and studying music a year ago.

You have made me very happy!
