I hate when some young artist is praised for being brilliant and talented when really all they do is have some basic I-V-vi-IV or vi-IV-I-V progression looping in their song.

I totally agree. The video is funny but there are songs and there are songs. smile

The four chords cadences are cliche, yes, repetitive, yes, but some of the songs are great. You may take a simple harmony and make a good melody, add good lyrics and have a great song as a result. Journey's Don't stop believing is one of my favorites and there are others listed on that video that are good IMO because of good lyrics and, in some cases, melody, despite the cliche harmony.

A basic chord progression doesn't make a song good or bad.
