Some time ago Orchestral Tools annouced SINE Factory and now it is up and running! thumb

There are now already three free instruments, one of them an Steinway B grand piano.

You need to register a free account (I had it already from another freebie) and use an specific free player (SINE Player), but otherwise it is straight forward:

ORCHESTRAL TOOLS SINE Factory

Enjoy! smile

I will check it in detail tonight (you know, VPC1 time laugh ) but so far, the demos seem very nice and it is a reasonably large sample set to be a decent piano. The other two instrumets are also very good on the demos, I will try them also in short time.

This seems to be some kind of concept in where you don't actually download the libaries.

I have tried it but so far the sine player doesn't seem to work for me.

Yes, there seems to be some glitch. I have the products on my account on SINE Player, but the licenses are not shown as activated. I will try on my main audio computer later and will let you know. I guess, being the first day of the SINE Factory, perhaps the license server is not working fine, as probably lots of people are trying to get their free licenses going.

Free and easy sometimes conflict.

More to come!

This reminds me of Kontakt - music software fundamentally built around a license manager wink

Many music softwares work with a license manager (UVI, Ivory : with PACE, Cubase, VSL with eLicensor).

The difference may be that Kontakt just ask you to type the serial number and the product is authorised. The other protection schemes need a dongle or the transfer of the license on the PC (with the risk that a PC out of order lose a license token). I am quite happy with the Kontakt protection scheme.

But Reaper or Garritan are probably the best : just a certificate including you name which enables the product.

I did it!. Is a bit convoluted, but got it working.

Well, the order I followed was first registering on Orchestral Tools site and subscribing to SINE Factory (which is free, but needed). That generated the free licenses on my account. Then, on SINE Player, selecting My Licenses showed me the three new instruments as licensed but not installed. Then you go to any of them and click on Details. There, you click on the PROSELECT area on MIX label. Then select destination for the files and click START. That lets you to download the instruments. After a while, you can select them on Library and then load them into memory to play.

SINE Player can be used stand-alone or as a VST on any DAW. I have just opened it on Cubase.

Be sure to check the tiny bottom right corner SINE Player settings. There are several interesting things there
