It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
I have been trying to play piano by ear with basic songs , first off my ear is not that good but i know music theory which helps , i am going off topic but i wanted to give you an idea of what i can do, so i pick what i thought was going to be an easy song " hallelujah " Leonard , I didn't find all the chords by ear i could not pick up the G , the song was harder than i thought, the chord progression is a bit confusing it starts off intro 1 -6- -1 -6 the vers 1-6-1-6-4-5-1-4-5-6--4 something like that but what chord progression is it , i was expecting 3 or 4 chords think i picked the wrong song to use for ear but i can play it now just can't make any sense of this chord progression .
"I don't play accurately - anyone can play accurately - but I play with wonderful expression. As far as the piano is concerned, sentiment is my forte. I keep science for Life."
When I play the pattern just as you've written it, seems like the verse and chorus are mixed together. You're very close though. Just verify against chords provided above to straighten out any mix up.
It is not a bad progression and just how tune goes.
Here is one you could try. Only if you like it that is. Heard it on the radio this morning and thought, hey there's a nice old tune that should be fairly easy to do. It is, but quite a few suspensions (I like that though). It could be quite effective with vocals and piano I think, and I might even have a go at trying to polish it up. Should be nearly straight forward sailing for trying by ear.

Good choice. Personally I much prefer the Nilsson version.
Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong.
Yes, try different version. Even though they are in F, this one sounds like they are in Gb which will be tougher, but not actually where they play it if you watch a live version.
