I decided I'm going to negotiate a deal on the K500 while the rebate is still going. Finally played one today and fell in love. It's a huge item for me, most expensive thing I've ever purchased by a factor of 8 or so that didn't come with a deed or title. I know K500 prices have been going up, but can anyone share what they paid for one (or heard someone did) in 2019 or 2020? I'm thinking with the rebate going anything $9.2-9.6k is fair, and $8.5-9k is a great deal.

I paid $8K plus tax three years ago for mine. At that time it was 38% off the SMP - and was part of a large purchase by the dealer for a local community college. The SMP has increased $1,200 in the past three years. 30% off the current SMP would be $9.8K, so I really don't know how much lower a dealer would be willing to go. All you can do is make an offer and see what happens.

Thank-you. That's very helpful.

I bought a k500 in September of 2020. I was quoted $9100 which included delivery and initial tuning at home. In the end I paid less than this because I had a Kawai digital to trade in but $9100 was the price before the trade in. That doesn’t include tax. It’s a great piano!

Well, are you prepared to walk from the deal and shop around, or are you bound to that one seller?

What I can tell you is that sellers with Kawai inventory have been moving their high end grands at, sometimes significantly below, 50% MRSP in recent months (e.g., offers for UDS 32k-38k on MRSP 66k). I'm not aware of similar deals on uprights, however. Still, I don't think 8.5k is a great deal on a 15k piano, and you should not let any seller convince you otherwise. They're trading on your ignorance of the deals that have been floating around since COVID hit. Just today I turned down a barely used Seiler SE-122, MRSP 40k, for 3.2k. This is Covid and you should shop around and work with sellers on delivery.

On the other hand, if you have a great local dealer that you've established a good relationship with, and they offer excellent post-sales services, you should be less stingy. In the end, you get what you pay for, but I personally feel Kawai's SMP price hike does not correlate with quality increase.

Man that would be an incredible deal. The dealer here has been moving pianos like hot cakes since COVID, so if anything it seems harder to find one in this area. That Seiler sounds like an incredible deal.

My dealer agreed to match this price exactly, and even discount the rebate if I could provide evidence. Sending you a private message. I would be super appreciative if you could pass on a picture or scan of your invoice showing that. I'd be happy to say thank-you with a small amazon gift card or whatever is useful for your time.

I bought my GL-10 in the summer of '18 and was quoted $8500 for a K-500. That didn't include moving or tax, but did include 1 tuning. The moving charge for my piano was $300, probably about the same for K-500.

Done. But funny story about that. When I first joined someone sent me a message and I didn't notice for 2 years. ><

I assume most people aren't as derpy as I am, but you never know lol.

I sent you a private message. I’ll get the invoice off to you today. The bump was a good idea smile as I wasn’t notified of your private message in my mail client. Maybe it went to my spam folder.

Whether you receive an email message when you receive a PM is defined by what you choose in ‘Preferences’. In the upper right of the forum screen you will find a drop-down arrow next to your forum name. One of the optional choices is ‘preferences’.

Yup, all set to finish getting my new K500 when it comes in in a week or so. Already put money down. So stoked. Thanks everyone (and especially ADIRL) who have contributed valuable insight on my search!

Nice, congrats-- both on the piano and the price! I'll be going to PPC tomorrow. Probably won't be checking out that model as I'll be playing the cheaper pianos followed by the super expensive pianos wink
